Recorder of the Year
2007 OAMR RECORDER OF THE YEAR AWARD Unlike the President’s Award of Distinction, nominations for this award can be submitted not only from OAMR members, but also from city managers and mayors. It is meant to go to a City Recorder who has made an outstanding contribution or provided outstanding service either to OAMR, to the profession of City Recorder or to their individual city and surrounding community. Nominations can be based on outstanding public relations, organization and administration, special projects, legislative procedures, records management, technology, emergency preparedness, council procedures or other areas of demonstrated expertise. This year the nomination was based on all of these categories:
This award goes to a City Recorder who was nominated by her mayor for her expertise and knowledge in legislative procedures, elections (including recalls), records management, emergency preparedness as well as public relations. In the letter of nomination from her city this City Recorder is recognized as someone who is highly respected and who represents aspects associated with a person worthy of this award. Her mayor states “There certainly is not a finer example of what a City Recorder should be and we are very lucky to have her as our City Recorder.” In addition to her mayors comments, at the State level she is recognized as a “mainstay for the cities and a wonderful liaison” – that she “is a great mentor for new recorders and someone that all recorders look up to.” This City Recorder received her CMC designation in 1996 and her MMC in 2005. She is an OAMR past president and has chaired and participated in almost all OAMR Committees. She is known for her outstanding organizational skills, professional appearance and demeanor and her always helpful, caring attitude. This past year she chaired the Records Management Committee, helped two cities with their schedule updates, participated and starred in the Disaster Recovery web-based training video, helped develop and present KARMA for IIMC, and has written letters of support for Archives legislation. She represented all Oregon cities at this year's annual National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators in Kansas City and quoting Mary Beth Herkert, our State Archivist is “A super nice person to work with and to know.” It is truly my honor and privilege to announce this year’s 2007 Recorder of Year as Sandra King, MMC, City of Wilsonville. Barbara Christensen Congratulations to 2007 OAMR Recorder of the Year Sandy King.
