Full Time- Hiring Range $2625-$3413/month plus excellent benefits. Answers phones and provides assistance to walk-in customers and court clients; responds to questions/inquiries regarding municipal court policies/procedures; enters data into accounting system; works closely with the Finance Director on City purchasing program. Work in Newport Municipal Court with Judge, tracks citations/fines, records court proceedings accurately, follow up with the DMV on citation activities. Requires excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to perform multiple tasks, to learn quickly and work with minimal supervision; to perform math transactions quickly and accurately, proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets applications desirable. Position requires dealing with sensitive materials in a confidential manner. Minimum qualifications include some higher education or vocational training in municipal government/utility billing or similar field; and two years of previous customer service experience; or equivalent. The City Recorder performs a variety of moderate to complex administrative support activities to maintain the smooth and efficient functioning of recording services including preparation of council agendas, administration of City elections, maintenance of the City Agreement/Contract database and coordination of the citywide records program. This position is expected to function independently in daily tasks and to use initiative and independent judgment on non-routine matters. Effective organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines are essential to this position. Attendance at one afternoon and one evening City Council meeting per month is a requirement with occasional overtime. The City Recorder will work with a variety of professional staff as well as with the city’s elected officials. The position will support and report to the Executive Manager who is charged with managing communication with the City Council and maintaining progress on the Council’s adopted Annual Work Plan. This position may supervise support staff in the City Manager’s office.
