Welcome to the Oregon Association of Municipal Recorders’ (OAMR) website. We are a professional organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to our members and to promoting recognition of the importance of the office of municipal recorder.

While OAMR’s history dates back to its founding in 1983, the history of the profession can be traced to the beginning of government in ancient civilizations. The scribe, clerk, or recorder often has been regarded as the heart of a local community, charged with preserving its history and ensuring its orderly conduct of business.

OAMR currently boasts active membership of more than 200 local public servants from all over Oregon. Among our members, we have 40 who have attained their Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation, and another 14 have gone on to achieve the prestigious title of Master Municipal Clerk (MMC).

Membership in OAMR offers many benefits in the areas of leadership, communication, and training. This website is dedicated to enhancing those benefits and to making resources available to anyone interested in the development of stronger local governments in Oregon. We invite you to explore our website and the information found here.

The calendar link on the right will take you to a listing of upcoming meetings, training sessions, conferences, and other activities of Oregon recorders and our counterparts in other northwest states. Other links on this page support our goal of providing continuing education for our members. Information is available about the many scholarships that enable members to participate in a wide range of educational opportunities. Our mentoring program offers professional resources and support to new members. Our new “On-the-Road” workshops allow recorders with specific expertise on topics of particular interest to recorders to bring timely presentations to groups around the state. The quarterly newsletter is a wealth of information and news about OAMR and our professional roles, and is one of the primary tools for communicating with our members. Another key communication tool and member resource is the Association’s e-mail “listserv.” This is an invaluable tool and is responsible for helping members receive quick and accurate information regarding any topic. See the link at the bottom of this page for more information.

On behalf of the 2007-08 OAMR Executive Board. I extend our best wishes to each of you and encourage you to consider joining OAMR if you’re not already a member. We hope that you find this website helpful and that you check back often to find out what’s new!
