On September 16 through 19, 2009, the Valley River Inn in Eugene, Oregon, will host the 27th Annual OAMR Annual Academy and Conference. Take time now to circle the dates and make plans to attend.

The 2009 Conference will kick off with an Academy Session on Wednesday, September 16, geared towards making each of us a better writer with an all-day session on technical writing skills presented by Yvonne Lewis Day. Ms. Day has been a presenter at two IIMC Annual Conferences and is a professional writer. She is a nationally recognized expert in business and technical communication and the usage of language in the workplace.

After the Academy Session, OAMR President Kathy Louie will welcome new and old members alike to the Meet-n-Greet in the President’s Suite. This informal opportunity to renew old friendships and make new ones should get everyone in the Conference mood.

The Conference will officially open in the Willamette Ballroom on Thursday morning, September 17, and will dive right into two days of education sessions. New this year is a New Recorders Track with sessions designed to give newer members the tools they need to perform the basics with confidence. Other sessions will include elections, certification, legislative updates, ergonomics, and more. We’ll cap it all off with the ever popular Rap Session to get those final burning questions answered by your peers.

gavelThe conference facility at the Valley River Inn is going to provide OAMR with outstanding space to visit with vendors providing all kinds of services valuable to City Recorders. New this year in the packet you receive at registration will be individual vendor and conference sponsor information for you to take home.

To break up all that education and give attendees a chance to relax, a fun evening is planned on Thursday night for the President’s Reception. Look for more details about this event in honor of President Louie in the summer newsletter.

runnerAfter Friday’s Rap Session, it’s time to hit the path, the walking path that is. The 10th Annual Kathy Ishiara Scholarship Fund Walk will give participants a chance to breathe the fresh air on a glorious fall walk along the Willamette River. In addition to receiving a great gift for participating, signing up for the Kathy Walk raises valuable fundraising dollars in honor of former Medford City Recorder Kathy Ishiara, who passed away from breast cancer in 1998 at the age of 52. You’ll be able to sign up right on your conference registration form. So toss those walking shoes in your bag and plan to hit the path.

The final act of the 2009 Annual Conference will be the Friday night banquet. It’s a chance to wear that “special” dress in your closet or an excuse to go shopping for one! It’s a fun evening that includes a rousing silent auction, a good meal, installation of new Executive Board members, announcement of raffle winners, and so much more! The dance floor in the ballroom won’t go to waste either. A DJ will be spinning tunes after the banquet for those who want to dance all night long.
